A new qualification for the “digital teacher”

Pursue an MA in TESOL at Deree now: Winter Term classes start January 9, 2017

The Deree School of Graduate and Professional Education now offers prospective students of the MA in TESOL program the opportunity to enroll for its Winter Term and start pursuing their master’s degree with the beginning of the new year, on January 9, 2017.

The MA in TESOL at Deree is ideal for English language educators who wish to improve their skills in order to be fully able to employ technologies that make their teaching more engaging and effective. The program is innovative both in its content and delivery. Mark Osborne, the coordinator of the program, talked to us about all the reasons that make Deree’s program stand out as an excellent choice for working professionals, experienced or not!

“One aspect of the carefully designed program is that it caters for both new teachers – or individuals wishing to change career – as well as more experienced ones,” Mark said, referring to a two-track approach that also offers students the option of a Trinity College London Certificate in TESOL as part of the MA award.

The program focuses on effectively utilizing new innovations in educational technology; “but we aren’t advocating the use of technology for technology’s sake,” said Mark adding that, “we want teachers to think critically about how they choose digital tools, and under what circumstances their use is most appropriate. Technology is just another tool, and you can use tools well or you can use them badly.”

Digital innovation is reflected in the program’s curriculum and content, and through the blended teaching approach, which combines face-to-face classes and online learning. Mark added that, “The blended learning approach makes studying possible while working, as attendance on campus is only required every second Saturday for part-time students, making it convenient even for students who live outside Athens. The online component is asynchronous, meaning that you can arrange your studying time according to your schedule.” The coordinator of the MA in TESOL added that, for Deree students, the cherry on top of the cake is that, “our campus in Aghia Paraskevi offers unrivaled sports and leisure facilities, and a true flavor of international student life with various social and cultural events.”
