The 11th Foreign Languages Forum

The 11th Foreign Languages Forum is taking place in Athens, at the Royal Olympic Hotel (Acropolis Metro Station) on 26-27 August 2017. Participants will have the opportunity to attend plenary sessions, teacher development presentations, workshops and practical talks delivered by F L Publishers.

Special Learning Difficulties will once again be the focus of attention. Experts in the field will give practical tips on how to deal with learners who struggle to keep in pace with the rest of the class. We strongly believe that the role of educators in a child’s education has fundamentally changed. Teaching differs from the old ‘show-and-tell’ practices. Today teachers work with children and young people who need extra support, or require an advanced programme of learning in order to reach their full educational potential.

They may work with individuals who have physical disabilities, speech and language difficulties, learning difficulties such as dyslexia, conditions such as autism, social, emotional and mental health needs, or have a combination of these difficulties.

They may also work with gifted and talented individuals. Teaching has become complex so teachers need to develop skills that can be applied immediately to their own teaching environment.

Teaching strategies and techniques that encourage learning, enhance student motivation and engagement will have a special place at the 11th Foreign Languages Forum.

Jamie Keddie, who has been nominated for the Eltons Awards, will talk about storytelling. Story telling is a very effective teaching technique teachers could apply to trigger students’ imagination and engagement. Students develop speaking and writing skills in a pleasant way. Jamie will demonstrate techniques that help teachers become successful and creative story tellers.

Dr Luke Prodromou will talk about discipline problems and how to maintain a pleasant environment in the classroom, where everybody feels safe and motivated to learn.

Nick Michelioudakis will present techniques for effective vocabulary revision and acquisition –a very useful presentation especially at the beginning of the school year.

Efy Glymi will talk about teacher performance. How teachers can reflect on their teaching, evaluate their performance and develop strategies for more effective teaching.

The future of learning is another area that requires our attention. School owners need to know current trends in language education, as well as other factors, such as the use of technology in education, that will determine the future of foreign language schools and the services they offer.

For this purpose Michael Carrier, Educational and Business Consultant, will discuss the future of learning and teaching and suggest ways to increase and strengthen presence in an ever competitive business environment.

A workshop with Platon Thomas, Marketing and Business Consultant, will add more to School Owners’ knowledge as to how plan and act strategically.

There is more to come. So stay tuned and check www.eltnews.gr/forum regularly for updates.
