The esteemed Dais Cultural Centre was the venue for the prestigious 2023 ELT Excellence Awards ceremony, where exceptional contributions and achievements in the field of English Language Teaching were recognized. This event brought together prominent educators, industry leaders, and language enthusiasts, showcasing their remarkable efforts and innovative practices that have shaped and transformed the landscape of English language education.
Now in its fourth year, the ELT Excellence Awards continue to establish the standard for recognizing excellence in ELT. They honor individuals and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to the advancement of English language learning and teaching methodologies. The event was organized by ELT NEWS, a monthly publication with a longstanding presence in the ELT scene in Greece spanning over 30 years.
The evening commenced with a warm welcome by Ms Anastasia Spyropoulou, the Chief Editor of ELT NEWS, along with Ms Jenny Dooley from Express Publishing, the platinum sponsor, and Ms Sissy-Anastasia Gkika, the Education, Youth, Culture & Sport Attachée from the Permanent Greek Representation to the EU.
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the ELT Excellence Awards in various categories, acknowledging exceptional achievements across different areas of ELT. The award recipients were carefully selected through a meticulous evaluation conducted by a panel of esteemed judges.
This year, two new awards were introduced: the Posthumous Award, which honors an ELT personality and celebrates their lasting impact on ELT even after their passing, and the Outstanding Achievement Award, which recognizes the applicant with the highest overall score among all applicants across all categories.
The first Posthumous Award was presented to Virginia Pagoulatou-Vlachou, a Teacher of English, FLS owner, and founder of Express Publishing, acknowledging her significant contributions to ELT. The Outstanding Achievement Award went to Ellinogermaniki Agogi, which scored 9.83 out of 10.
The School of the Year Award went to Tsonidis School in Chalkida; the Educator of the Year Award went to Panagiota Kotsoni from Langadas, and the Lifetime Achievement Award went to Anastasia Spyropoulou for her long-standing contributions to the field.
