The Psychology Department of Hellenic American College (HAEC) and Hellenic American University (Manchester NH, USA) cordially invite you to the 3rd Psychotherapy Colloquium on Anxiety.
The Psychology Department of Hellenic American College, in cooperation with Hellenic American University (Manchester, New Hampshire, USA), is organizing the 3rd Annual Psychotherapy Colloquium on September 20th, 2013 (10:00-18.00). This Colloquium will focus on anxiety. Entrance is free.
The Colloquium gives psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, nursing staff of mental health, educators and other stakeholders the opportunity to meet with distinguished mental health professionals who will present different approaches to understanding and treating anxiety.
Anxiety disorders refer to a range of conditions, including phobias, panic disorders and post-traumatic stress disorder, which have in common excessive and persistent feelings of worry, dread and fearfulness.
While anxiety is a normal reaction to stressful situations, persons who suffer from an anxiety disorder experience such overwhelming anxiety that the quality of their everyday life is seriously impaired.
Anxiety disorders are one of the most common mental disorders; it is estimated that about 4.5% of the world’s population will suffer from an anxiety disorder sometime during their life.
Despite the considerable distress and the interference in everyday living an anxiety disorder may cause, only one-third of persons who are affected go to a mental health specialist for help.
The following presenters will address anxiety from different therapeutic viewpoints and applications to specific areas, i.e. relationships, health.
