New ESB format from December 2017- Main Changes at a Glance

 

 

 

  •  The written papers in ALL levels have ONLY multiple choice questions.
  • ALL the speaking exams are the same format.
  •  Same 20 predictive speaking topics for ALL levels.

B1 + B2 LISTENING EXAM – THE SAME FORMAT:

Part One: 10 short dialogues with 3-option multiple choice questions.

Part Two: 10 True/False questions on one extended dialogue.
 

B1 Use of English:

Part Three: cloze text with 10 [A, B, C] multiple choice options

Part Four: 5 questions with [A, B, C] multiple choice options
 

B1 Writing:

Write one of the following: an email to someone you know, a story or an essay.
 

B2 Use of English

ONLY 4 Parts, NO Part Five. Total of 70 questions.
 

B2 Writing:

Write one of the following: an email to someone you know, a story or an essay.
 

C1 and C2 USE OF ENGLISH: ONLY multiple choice questions.

Part three and Part four: cloze text with 10 [A, B, C, D] multiple choice options.
 

C1 Writing:

Write one of the following: an email to someone you don’t know, a story or an essay.
 

C2 Writing:

Write one of the following: an email to someone you don’t know, or one of two essays.
 

Speaking Exam:

B1 [11minutes], B2 [11minutes],C1 [13minutes],, C2 [15minutes]

Part One: Introductory Questions.

Part Two: Interactive Discussion [based on visual prompts]

Part Three: Responding to questions on a different topic to that covered in Part 2.
 

There are the same 20 predictive speaking topics for ALL the levels.
