Cambridge English: First and First for Schools exams updated for 2015

New updated versions of the popular Cambridge English: First and Cambridge English: First for Schools exams will be introduced from January 2015.

The exams have been updated as part of a regular review process which ensures all Cambridge exams reflect the latest research into language learning and assessment and also meet the needs of teachers, learners and those who rely on the exam for higher education and employment recruitment.

Key features of the updated exams:

• Four papers instead of five. Reading and Use of English have been combined into a single paper assessing both language knowledge and reading skills. All of the tasks in the current papers have been retained in modified formats in the new Reading and Use of English paper.

• 30 minutes shorter than the previous examinations. Careful exam design means that the updated exams still assess at exactly the same level, and retain the same language and skills coverage as the current exams.

• Feature new tasks and testing focuses in the Writing and Speaking papers.

Exam specifications and sample papers are now available from the Cambridge English website, and online practice tests, handbooks for teachers and other materials to help teachers prepare students for the updated exams will be added later.
