My Greece, sun and sea

Elementary school pupil wins “Doogle 4 Google” competition

A simple drawing capturing the whole of Greece: sun, sea, seagulls, a fishing boat and the Greek flag. This powerful image was submitted by Asterios Reynik, 10, an elementary school pupil from Litochoro in Pieria.

The jury decided that Reynik’s picture was the best among those participating in “Doodle 4 Google” logo competition with the theme “My Greece, sun and sea”.

Asterios Reynik told media that he used all the elements that impress him like the seagulls accompanying him and his grandfather when they sail out with the fishing boat.

Doodle 4 Google had invited elementary and high school pupils from Greece aged 6-18 in four age categories to use their artistic talents and redesign the Google homepage logo for millions to see.

The winning doodle was displayed for 24 hours. A jury consisting of Google employees and a panel of “Guest Judges” that included authors, journalists, musicians, illustrators, and cartoonists narrowed the total submissions pool.

The criteria set by the jury were artistic merit, creativity and theme communication. The public voted for the best doodle from April 13th to May 7th 2013.

Asterios Reynik won a Chromebook, a Wacom tablet, a t-shirt with the doodle he designed and a travel to Athens to attend the winner announcement ceremony. A total of 8,200 pupils from 2,234 schools across Greece participated in the Doodle 4 Google contest.
