To mark the European Day of Languages, the Association of Language Testers in Europe (ALTE) is organising two events focusing on language assessment, test development, quality and trust.
The programme begins with an online webinar on Monday, 28 September 2026, followed by an in-person forum in Athens on Thursday, 1 October 2026.
Exploring the Revised Manual for Language Test Development and Examining
The webinar, “Exploring the Revised Manual for Language Test Development and Examining,” will introduce participants to the revised Manual for Language Test Development and Examining (MLTDE).
The session will feature contributions from representatives of the Council of Europe (CoE) and the European Centre for Modern Languages (ECML), as well as members of the Manual for Language Test Development and Examining team. Together, they will provide insights into the ongoing collaboration between ALTE, the CoE/ECML and experts involved in developing the Manual.
The webinar is designed both for professionals already familiar with the publication and for those discovering it for the first time, offering practical insights and perspectives on language test development and assessment.

Quality and Trust in Language Assessment: A Forum for Greece
The second event, “Quality and Trust in Language Assessment: A Forum for Greece,” will take place in Athens on Thursday, 1 October 2026.
Language certification plays an important role in Greece, influencing access to education, employment and opportunities within the public sector. The forum will examine a fundamental question: How can language qualifications be fair, reliable and genuinely reflect a candidate’s ability?
Hosted at the Goethe-Institut building in Athens, the event will explore ways to strengthen trust in language assessment, with particular emphasis on independent quality assurance mechanisms such as the ALTE Q-Mark.
The forum will take place from 10:00 to 12:30 local time and is free of charge. It is open to professionals working in language testing and assessment.
