Joe Russo

Joe Russo has been teaching in the International Department of Doukas School for the past 19 years. This has included a Pre-IB English program, as well as English and Music for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP) at Doukas School in Marousi, Athens, Greece. Mr. Russo believes in building community before curriculum, empathy and equality, and above all student empowerment and excellence. Two Undergrad Programs, Twice the Fun Mr. Russo’s first degree was a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Michigan, where he was accepted into the Honors Program for the top 2% of students. As a poet, at university Mr. Russo was published in several small literary magazines, interviewed on student-run radio, and regularly shared his work at open-mic nights at Club Heidelburg. After spending some time in the professional world, Mr. Russo returned to university, earning a Post Baccalaureate Teaching degree in Music Education (Vocal), K-12, and was originally certified in the State of Michigan before moving permanently to Greece. Apart from English and poetry, Mr. Russo has been performing as a singer in semi-professional and professional choirs, small ensembles, musical theater, and as a featured soloist since the age of ten. From comic light opera to a barbershop quartet, from The Michigan Renaissance Festival to the University of Michigan Gospel Chorale, to his favorite, the University of Michigan Men’s Glee Club, Mr. Russo has been part of every genre and musical community you can imagine.
