ELT NEWS is hosting a new professional development webinar, “What If Your English Classroom Could Be More IB?”, on Sunday, 18 October 2026, from 11:00 to 13:00 via Zoom.
Designed for English language teachers, IB educators, tutors, coordinators and school leaders, the two-hour webinar will explore how key principles associated with the International Baccalaureate can be applied in everyday English language teaching, including in classrooms outside the IB system.
The webinar will feature two presentations by Joe Russo and Dr Tassos Anastasiades.
Teaching English IB Style: Skill-Based Vocabulary Building and Reading
From 11:00 to 12:00, Joe Russo will examine practical ways of developing student agency, critical thinking and independence through vocabulary, reading, drama and literature.
The session will look at how teachers can help learners move beyond memorising correct answers and towards interpreting texts, making connections and developing their own ideas. Practical classroom examples will address skill-based vocabulary development, the transition from knowing language to actively using it, reading for meaning, and using drama and literature to create richer classroom interaction.
Build an IB Culture That Transforms Learning
From 12:00 to 13:00, Dr Tassos Anastasiades will explore how teachers and schools can translate IB principles into everyday classroom practice.
The presentation will focus on ways to build a learning culture that encourages curiosity, learner agency and purposeful learning, while examining how IB-inspired approaches can be relevant to both IB and non-IB educational settings.
The webinar is particularly relevant to teachers considering a move into IB education, educators already working within IB programmes, teachers supporting IB students privately, and ELT professionals looking for practical ways to make their teaching more learner-centred and inquiry-driven.
